in starting or growing their own business. Each of the organizations
listed on this web site have programs that may be useful to
entrepreneurs. For each organization we summarize the various
programs that are offered. After each program there is either
a web link or contact phone number or address. If you would like
more information on a specific program then merely click on the link
and you will be linked to that provider’s web.

Governor's Office of Economic Development - (Loans, Training Programs) The
South Dakota state agency tasked with promoting economic development
throughout the state. The GOED has several different loan programs and
workforce training programs.
Small Business Administration

(Loan Guaranty, Professional Assistance, Government Contracting)
A United States government agency whose mission
is to support small business. They have a wide variety of programs
and services including loan guarantees, technical support and
assistance in obtaining government contracts.
Bureau of Indian
Affairs (BIA) Loan Guaranty Program
- (Loan
Guaranty, Loan Insurance and Interest Subsidy Programs)
The program
was established by the Indian Financing Act of 1974 to stimulate and
increase American Indian entrepreneurship and employment through the
establishment, acquisition or expansion of Indian-owned or Native
Alaskan-owned economic enterprises. Guaranteed and insured loans may
be made to finance Indian-owned businesses, whether for profit or
non-profit.
Native American Community Development Financial
Institutions - (Loans, Business Consulting,
Financial Literacy) These institutions are authorized by the United States
Treasury and designed to provide access to capital and technical
assistance to underserved populations. Programs offered include
loans, business consulting and financial literacy.
Rural Development -
(Business, Infrastructure and Home Loans, Grants)
Formerly known as the Farmers Home
Administration this federal agency offers a wide variety of programs
designed to support economic development in rural areas.
Tribal Planners -
(Technical Support) Perform
an economic development function for each tribe.
Economic Development Corporations
- (Technical Support) Local, usually city based, nonprofit organizations that
promote economic development. EDCs offer support on a variety of
issues, including site selection and knowledge of local
infrastructure and local regulatory issues. Some EDCs have their own
loan programs.
National Native American Organizations -
(Information, Technical Assistance, Employment) There are
several national Native American organizations whose mission is to
support Native American businesses and promote economic development.
Small Business Development Centers - (Business Planning,
Financial Projections, Budgeting) Sponsored by the
University of South Dakota, this organization provides confidential,
one on one, consulting to individuals looking to start or expand a
business. Services include business planning, financial projections
and budgeting.
